Professional AC Installation Services in Durham, NH

When summer temperatures in Durham climb into the 80s and 90s with New Hampshire’s characteristic humidity, having a properly installed air conditioning system becomes essential for your home’s comfort. At Paul the Plumber, we specialize in comprehensive AC installation services that ensure your cooling system operates at peak efficiency from day one. Our family-owned and operated business has spent 22 years perfecting our installation techniques, and we understand the unique climate challenges that Durham residents face throughout the cooling season.

Our BBB accredited A+ rating reflects our commitment to excellence in every installation project we undertake. We approach each AC installation with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring proper sizing, optimal placement, and seamless integration with your existing HVAC infrastructure. Our licensed and background-checked technicians bring extensive knowledge of the latest cooling technologies and installation best practices to every job, treating your home with the same care and respect we’d show our own family members.

Choosing the Right AC System for Your Durham Home

Selecting an appropriate air conditioning system requires careful consideration of multiple factors specific to your property. Square footage, insulation quality, window placement, and existing ductwork all play crucial roles in determining the ideal cooling solution. We conduct thorough load calculations using industry-standard Manual J methodology to precisely determine your home’s cooling requirements. This scientific approach prevents the common mistake of oversizing or undersizing equipment, which can lead to inefficient operation, excessive energy costs, and premature system failure.

Modern air conditioning systems offer impressive energy efficiency ratings, with SEER ratings now reaching 20 or higher in premium models. We help you navigate these efficiency metrics and understand how they translate into real-world energy savings for your Durham home. Our upfront pricing policy means you’ll know exactly what your investment entails before we begin any work, and we back all our installations with a comprehensive 2-year parts and labor warranty. For homeowners who join our club membership program, we extend this protection to three full years, providing additional peace of mind for your cooling investment.

The installation process itself demands precision and expertise that only comes from years of experience. We ensure proper refrigerant charging, verify correct airflow across the evaporator coil, and meticulously seal all connections to prevent energy loss. Our technicians also install appropriate drainage systems to handle condensation, protecting your home from potential water damage while maintaining optimal indoor humidity levels.

Energy Efficiency and Cost Considerations

Energy efficiency remains a top priority for Durham homeowners, particularly given New England’s rising electricity costs. Modern air conditioning systems incorporate advanced technologies like variable-speed compressors and smart thermostats that can reduce cooling costs by 30-50% compared to units installed just 15 years ago. We help you understand available utility rebates and federal tax credits that can offset installation costs, making high-efficiency systems more accessible for budget-conscious homeowners.

Our installation process includes comprehensive ductwork evaluation and modification when necessary. Poorly designed or deteriorating ductwork can reduce system efficiency by up to 30%, forcing your new AC to work harder and consume more energy. We inspect existing ductwork for leaks, inadequate insulation, and improper sizing, addressing these issues during installation to maximize your system’s performance. With thousands of verified 5-star reviews across multiple platforms, our customers consistently praise our thorough approach to ensuring optimal system efficiency.

The Installation Process and Timeline

Professional AC installation typically requires one to two days, depending on system complexity and any necessary modifications to existing infrastructure. We begin with careful removal of old equipment when applicable, ensuring proper disposal and refrigerant recovery in accordance with EPA regulations. Our technicians then prepare the installation area, verifying electrical capacity and upgrading circuits if needed to support your new system’s requirements.

  • Site preparation and old equipment removal: We protect your property with drop cloths and carefully remove existing systems while recovering refrigerants responsibly
  • Indoor unit installation: We mount the evaporator coil and air handler, ensuring proper alignment and secure connections to existing ductwork
  • Outdoor unit placement: We position the condenser on a level pad or brackets, maintaining proper clearances for optimal airflow and service access
  • Refrigerant line installation: We run insulated copper lines between indoor and outdoor units, brazing connections for leak-free operation
  • Electrical connections: We install dedicated circuits when needed and make all electrical connections according to local codes
  • System commissioning: We charge the system with refrigerant, verify proper operation, and calibrate thermostats for accurate temperature control

Maintaining Your New AC System

Following installation, establishing a regular maintenance schedule proves essential for preserving your system’s efficiency and extending its operational lifespan. We recommend annual tune-ups that include filter replacement, coil cleaning, refrigerant level verification, and comprehensive system diagnostics. Our service technicians identify potential issues before they develop into costly repairs, helping you avoid unexpected breakdowns during Durham’s hottest days.

Indoor air quality considerations also factor into modern AC installation projects. We can incorporate advanced filtration systems, UV lights, and humidity control features that work in conjunction with your cooling system to create a healthier indoor environment. These additions prove particularly valuable for family members with allergies or respiratory sensitivities, removing airborne contaminants while maintaining comfortable temperature and humidity levels.

Our commitment to treating customers like family means we’re always available to answer questions about your new system’s operation and maintenance requirements. We provide comprehensive documentation and operational guidance, ensuring you understand how to maximize your system’s capabilities while minimizing energy consumption. With our reliable service and integrity-driven approach, we’ve built lasting relationships with Durham homeowners who trust us for all their cooling needs. Whether you’re replacing an aging system or installing AC in a new construction project, we bring the expertise and dedication necessary to ensure your complete satisfaction with your cooling investment. Thanks to Mike Vallee from Paul the Plumber for responding to this new customer’s call so quickly. He was courteous, thorough, explained the repair he was doing and left the work area spotless. I highly recommend Paul the Plumber (and Mike!) to anyone looking for a reliable plumbing company.

I cannot say enough about this company!!! Their only concern is that you are up and running again with no worries. I’ve had Kyle the plumber, and Josh their electrician out here and both are polite, well trained and you can tell they truly care about getting you back in service. Great service, well trained caring staff! I will never go anywhere else!

I made an appointment on line the morning of July 31 and two trucks showed up at 1:00 pm right on time that same afternoon. Both guys were friendly and very knowledgeable. They quickly found the source of the wet patch on my ceiling which wasn’t the plumbing but a problem with the shower curtain. This is the second time I have called Paul. Both times I got outstanding service and will always call on Paul the Plumber for any plumbing problems in the future. Very reasonable cost for the visit.

J. Shea

John was wonderful. He found the problem right away and fixed it. He checked other outlets just to make sure I would be safe. He explained different programs the company offers also. I’m very happy.

K. MacCallum

First time customer, and am very pleased with the whole experience. The highlight was definitely with the technicians assigned to the job and their work – Tyree and Corey were clean, polite, well-informed, and very helpful with some of the questions I had along the way. Their work appears to be top-notch, and they made sure no mess was left behind. Will definitely be calling and requesting these two again on any future needs.

D. Weaver

What a fantastic business. Helped us work with our water district in resolving meter replacement issues. They also fixed a pipe leak that had developed over time. Caleb was wonderful and answered our questions as well as working with the water district engineer on the meter issues. So easy to work with.

D. Lefort

Arrived as scheduled to fix a leak from the shower valve. Tried to fix old 30 or 40 year old unit but had to replace with a new one. Quality work, parts and cleaned up when they were done. Would definitely use again.

K. Bernardo

We’re first time home owners and needed help with some plumbing and adding a filter system. They were able to get a technician scheduled to our house within a day or so of me contacting them. Mike was super helpful and was able to complete all the jobs in a timely manner, and also cleaned up the areas he was working in. Overall a great experience and would definitely use them for future jobs.

S. Baraket

Never used Paul The plumber company before but I’m glad I did. Very courteous, professional and pleasant from the answering service (Diane) to employees (Jeremy). They diagnosed the problem and fixed it in no time. Very happy and satisfied with their service. Definitely will use again. Thank you

S. DesMarais

Josh was amazing. He was able to install my ring doorbells with no issues. He also did a great check of my homes smoke detectors and a few electrical plugs. He was thorough, Knowledgeable, and easy to work with. I would definitely use them again.

T. Minasian

These are the after photos of the Rinnai tankless water heater installation and vent to the outside. It was important to me that the crew was able to use the existing vent hole to the outside to run both the intake vent pipe and the outside vent pipe. It made the job very clean and did not change the appearance of the outside wall. A shout out to Mike E, Caleb, Josh & Corey

Michele

I’ve used Paul the Plumber twice now for electrical issues and they have been wonderful each time. They are fast, polite, knowledgeable, and very fairly priced. They explain everything well and answer my questions thoroughly and I feel safer now knowing what was causing my electrical issues and having it fixed! I will be using Paul the Plumber for all my household needs going forward

V. Vincze

We had an issue with our water…too hard, calcium deposits, and very little pressure in our master bathroom shower only. The techs (Mike E. & Tyler S.) arrived right on time. They were friendly and very personable. After installing our whole house filtration system and successfully finding the issue with our master bathroom, they left the work areas in pristine condition. They were meticulous in their work, and I highly recommend them for any plumbing needs!

J. Wojo

DJ from PTP was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. My shower was not draining and it became a bigger project than I thought it would and they came out quickly and were able to fix my problem. Then when my water heater had a slow leak they came back out quickly to attend to it and fix my problem. I really appreciate their hard work. Thank you so much!! Would definitely recommend them.
